Capybara
(Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris)

Located

The Capybara can be found in various regions of South
America and in Panama.


Diet

Capybaras eat grasses, fruits and water plants.

Habitat

Capybaras live near lakes, rivers and streams.

Size

Capybaras are approximately 4 ft. long and can weigh up
to 100 pounds.


Reproduction

The pregnancy period of the Capybara lasts about 5
months and the litter consists of about 2 - 8 offspring.


Additional Notes

Capybaras have webbed toes which enable it to be a
strong swimmer. They can also hide in the water by
holding their noses above water and submerging the rest
of their bodies below.
